Lines of research

Philology, History and Historiography of Portuguese

This researche line includes studies on Philology, in the strict sense, and on Linguistics, with a focus on linguistic change and the history of the Portuguese language. The line consolidates the dialogue and interdisciplinarity between different research methods on written texts, operated through projects whose scientifical scope, in a transversal bias, encompasses everything from the history of texts to the history and historiography of Portuguese.

 


Lexicon/Grammar of Portuguese and languages in contact

This research line includes research on Lexicology, Lexicography, Terminology, Etymology, Stylistics and Onomastics as well as research on the processes, principles and trends that engender linguistic uses in pragmatic, phonetic-phonological and morphosyntatic instances of Portugues and languages in contact in diverse theoretical and methodological perspectives, as well as in applications to the teaching and learning of Portuguese as a Native Language (NL), Additional Language (AL), Host Language (HoL) or Heritage Language (HL).

 


Language, Text and Discourse in applied linguistics and Discourse Theory

In this line, transdisciplinary research and under different theoretical-methodological approaches are developed taking as objects the language, text or discourse in the school context and in other social spheres of use of the Portuguese language, contemplating the initial and continuing training of the teacher, translation, Portuguese as a native language, as a second language and as a foreign language, the production and analysis of teaching material, theorization and analysis of oral, written and digital texts.
