Map of the Program's international network

The breadth of the Program's international presence largely reflects the breadth of the Portuguese language's presence in the world and the global interest that this presence motivates. The Program's professors and students have taken on the task of intensifying and strengthening this interest, expanding the geographic scope of their actions in different research areas - in particular those directly linked to the historical, cultural and geographical diversification of the language: the situations of linguistic contact, teaching and learning Portuguese as a foreign language and, increasingly, the theme of Portuguese as a language of inheritance.

The international reach of the Program's research is also an effect of the performances with character of excellence and innovation of outstanding members of its teaching staff. These researchers are frequently invited by research centers in Africa, Asia, the Americas and Europe, as well as by international scientific associations, to give conferences, collaborate on research projects and participate as prominent figures in scientific events. Working at the forefront of knowledge in their fields, these professors have also published the results of their research in journals of international impact, and in books and collections co-authored with their research partners from foreign universities.

Internationalization is also a key factor in the quality of the Program's student education. Students have proficiently taken advantage of the exchange opportunities and visits of researchers from different countries to the Program, thus expanding the theoretical and methodological horizons of their research. Internationalization actions, in this sense, serve one of the central points of the Program's mission, by favoring the training of researchers who are attentive to topics at the forefront of knowledge and prepared for the challenges of professional performance in an intensely globalized world.

The expansion and diversification of the Program's presence in the world, the densification of activities with an international character of excellence and innovation and the expansion of the international character of student training have been priorities in the management of successive coordinating commissions since the previous quadrennium. The support and encouragement of international actions by teachers and students was made through concrete measures related to financial management and the preparation of an institutional environment favorable to the exchange of researchers.

The internationalization actions have as institutional context the official agreements with foreign institutions and the various international partnerships established with groups and research projects from abroad by the professors, and involve exchanges in two ways: internships of professors and students of the Program abroad and reception of students. foreign researchers in Brazil.
